Life or death emergencies

Life or death emergencies that require you to travel outside the United States within 72 hours (3 business days) may qualify you for expedited passport processing. These emergencies are serious illnesses, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family. You must provide all the usual application documentation in addition to proof of the life or death emergency.

Expedite through a private expediting service

Applicants will pay the additional $60 government fee plus the fee for the private expediting service. A Registered Passport Expediting Service can secure your passport as quickly as 24 hours. Their service is often convenient and very quick. You should be able to complete the entire process without leaving your zip code. Proof of travel is usually required within 14 days of your travel (or 30 days if a visa is needed).

Expedite through a Regional Passport Agency

Applicants will pay an additional $60 government fee for processing their passport in a hurry through the Regional Passport Agency. An appointment is required and proof of travel within 5 days is required.
